BARCELONA, SPAIN

Testing all of your senses.
It's got it all.

Spain is one of those countries that is so culturally wealthy. Maybe it has to do with the fact that I am Mexican and Spanish is my first language but I find myself feeling so 'in' when in Spain. Barcelona is a little piece of paradise. The architecture, food, people, beach. All of it. It has so much life. From music on the streets, paella and wine on every corner, and craned necks from building gazing, Barcelona keeps your senses on your toes, waiting for something beautiful to appear at every turn.

PARK GUELL, BARCELONA, SPAIN

the basics

Where drinking wine is socially acceptable at all times of the day.

  1. Spanish is the dominant language. Not to worry, most people within the city centre speak English and are kind enough to deal with tourists asking where the nearest wine bar is. Don't be shy.

  2. Getting around. Barcelona has a great underground transport service as well as buses. A lot of the streets are pedestrianized so it is almost easier to get around by foot. Taxi's and travel apps (such as MyTaxi) are great and give good fares when traveling longer distances.

  3. Get some Euros. Do get some Euros, do not carry all of them with you. Spain has a rep for having a big pickpocketing crew in the touristy areas, so it's recommended you carry only a day's worth of cash or a good CC.

  4. Playing the tourist. Honestly, I dont think I have ever enjoyed playing tourist as much as I did in this city. There is so much to see in BCN. Do get your tickets to Park Guell and Sagrada Familia a couple of days ahead. Ticket booth lines are long and during the summer they sell out days in advance. Get smart and simply show up with your email confirmation, ID, and payment card.
